ABOUT HASCA
HASCA – Who are we?
HASCA is an incorporated society that was set up by North Shore home educating parents to promote and unite home educating families in sport and cultural events.
HASCA was originally set up in 2001 when Auckland Secondary Schools Association did not allow our secondary school basketball teams (or individuals playing for a school) to compete in the secondary school competitions administered by North Harbour Basketball, on behalf of the ASSHA (Auckland Secondary Schools Heads of Association). One of the parents was elected to the board of North Harbour Basketball, which resulted in our teams being allowed to enter these competitions. However ASSHA could remove us at any time, so we are working to resolve this. A very important advantage of our organisation is that as an incorporated society HASCA is apply to apply for grants to subsidise our activities which we wouldn’t qualify to do if we were not incorporated.
We have undertaken (and supported) many sport, educational and cultural events under our umbrella such as:
- Our many Netball teams
- Our many Basketball teams
- An annual family sports day, for all ages
- Annual days at MERC - Sir Peter Blake Marine Education & Recreation Centre
- Overnight Camp with Outdoor Pursuits
- Our fabulous Family Ball held mid year
- The amazing Art Festival featuring our own choir and dance groups, and various music, singing, dance and drama activities
- Classes such as; Film, Economics, Maori Language, Art, Music
- Basketball Coaching Programme and Gymnastics
- Choir “Homeschool Harmonies” and Ukulele
- Kapahaka Group
If you have an idea for an activity that would benefit home educators how about talking to us about how we can make it a reality for others. Email: hasca.nz@gmail.com.
